Dear families, friends, colleagues and partners,

I am writing to update you in light of the Corona Virus outbreak and continuing developments.

We are dealing with an unprecedented and ever-changing situation with many unknown future consequences.

Please be assured that we are doing everything in our powers to ensure that we can continue to deliver care and support to all our clients during this time.

We are following government guidelines and liaising closely with our local authorities to ensure we can provide essential services at this time.

We have personal protective equipment so that we minimise any risks of contamination and are taking all precautions as prescribed by the Government.

However, we do not have an unlimited number of staff. We do not know who will be affected and who will need to self- isolate potentially reducing our staffing levels. We are ALL dedicated to maintaining our service and office staff will be utilised as will I if required.

As a last resort we may need to do some or all of the following:

  • prioritise clients based on ‘at risk’ criteria.

  • Provide shorter care calls to enable more people to be visited based on priority by fewer staff

  • Cancel or rearrange non- urgent calls eg domestic cleaning

  • Vary call times to enable more visits to be made with fewer staff

  • Avoid taking clients out and instead do shopping on their behalf, provide social stimulation at home etc

  • Call on friends and family to become more involved in the support provided

  • If we get close to the point where we cannot provide any care and support we will notify the local authority so that, where possible, assistance can be provided through other means.

Please can you help us to help your friend and/or family member, where possible:

  • Advising us of a ‘Good Neighbour/Friend’ who has agreed to be involved in checking on the welfare of your relation/friend and other help if you are unable to be involved.

  • Ensuring that your relative/friend has sufficient stocks of essential items

  • Ensuring that if we are normally responsible for taking your relative/friend shopping that they have a supply of cash. (We cannot use bank cards or contactless for security reasons)

  • Ensuring that your relative/friend has hand washing essentials available for staff eg paper towels soap and surface cleansers.

We understand that this a worrying time especially for those over 70 years old and those living with underlying health conditions. We are hoping that we can all work together to support everyone.

It is our aim to maintain business as usual but it would be naïve to assume that this will definitely be possible. If you have any concerns/ queries or suggestions as to how we can meet this challenge please do not hesitate to contact me or my colleagues.

May I thank you in advance for your help with this situation and for your anticipated patience as we meet the inevitable challenges ahead.

Yours sincerely

Anne Pelling
